Al Gentry holds photos of his brother, who was murdered over 20 years ago, at his home in Rockwell, N.C., Tuesday, June 10, 2008. It took years, but authorities have charged his 76-year-old former sister-in-law with hiring a hit man, and investigators think she may have also killed her four other husbands in four other states. ABC News' Diane Sawyer interviewed Scott Peterson as the search for Laci was still ongoing and the case began to generate national attention. Legal analysts said it was unwise for Peterson to have discussed the case on national television.
Peterson was booked on two counts of murder at the Stanislaus County jail April 19. He had been arrested 12 hours earlier in San Diego. Authorities believed he was trying to flee the country to Mexico.
Peterson's mistress, Amber Frey, testified against her former lover in August. Frey had been having an affair with Peterson at the time of Laci's disappearance. Her cooperation proved critical to the prosecution
